Fun Things to Do in Oregon
July 18, 2009
I have three small children. Therefore, I spend great amounts of time chasing them around, and planning outings that will entertain everyone. We are a family that enjoys the outdoors, getting familiar with our surroundings, and discovering new places to explore. I have personally lived in three drastically different parts of Oregon, and traveled to many more. So, in an attempt to stimulate more blog posts, I am launching this new writing category. First up, the Oregon Coast Aquarium. Stay tuned.
Naming
January 25, 2009
The other day I told my husband I had started a blog, and his first question was: “What did you name it?” When I told him, he sort of snickered, and so I thought perhaps an explanation was necessary.
A few years ago, I regularly listened to “This American Life” on NPR, so yes, “This Oregon Writer” is an obvious rip-off of that title. Hence, husband snickers. However, there is more than just a reference to a famous radio program in my blog’s name. I chose “This Oregon Writer” because it exactly identifies who I am and what I hope to accomplish. This blog is my words and my way to communicate them to the world. I included Oregon because it is where I live, where I was born, and where I will probably always be. This is a fact that has taken most of my life to accept, and most of my adulthood to embrace. I never pictured myself settling in my home state, and yet it is here that I have seen the most beauty, and have had the best life experiences. “This Oregon Writer” is a simple, easy-to-remember, honest title for my work.
Getting Started
January 18, 2009
Hello, my name is Sofia, and I am an unpublished writer. This blog is my first attempt at going public with my work. I have wanted to be a professional writer since I was a young child, but I have no idea how to go about making this dream a reality. Therefore, I am starting here.
I plan to start my blog with book, movie, and music reviews. I am also looking forward to dialog with other writers about writing, so your comments are welcome!
